Digital Marketing and the Fear of Trying Something New

Digital marketing is nothing new. It's been around for years, and its evolved quite a bit in that span of time. But there are still TONS of companies and businesses that have yet to use it or even take a look at it. In fact, you will find that way more companies are not using it, compared to ones that are using it. Many of these same companies are still tied to their old ways of marketing, which are more than likely highly outdated and not providing them with the results that they once did. An example of this would be:

Physical Advertisements. Physical advertisements can be any number of things, from magazines and newspapers, billboards, signs, or god forbid still using the yellow pages. Physical advertisements are popular with local businesses who mainly serve a city or a certain area. Since their specific area is what they are targeting, this type of advertising is typically what they will use a lot of the time.

The problem with physical advertisements is obvious. Whether you are targeting a specific area or the whole country, digital marketing will always be able to reach more people than physical advertisements will. Way more. The internet allows you to get your ads in front of many more faces than a physical advertisement ever can. 

I work with many local businesses when it comes to their marketing, and when I first introduce the concept of digital marketing, I always hear the same thing. 
“These ads aren’t working the way that they used to, but its what we know, and what we’ve always done, so we’re comfortable with it.”

I hear some version of that sentence pretty much every time. What’s crazy is that they are all saying the same thing. It’s NOT working that well anymore. But they continue to do it because its all they have ever known. Trying something new, especially something as daunting as digital marketing, can be hard for business owners like this. Even when an expert like me comes along and offers to provide them with this service, it can take a lot of convincing to get them to take the leap. 

And after Ive begun doing their digital marketing, and they are watching a very large influx of new customers coming in, they always say the same thing. “Wow! Why the hell didn’t I do this sooner? This is incredible!” 

Even though I know that digital marketing is hands down the best way to advertise and make way more money for the business, getting them to see that is the hard part. It's just the fear of trying something new. Even if we know deep down that it's probably the RIGHT thing to do. 

Digital marketing is not only the best way to advertise for business, but it is also extremely cost effective when you work with an expert who knows what they are doing. You might even find that you have to spend way less than you did on physical advertisements.
